Job Description:

Sub Inspector/Station Officer

Educational Qualification: The candidates must be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized

University provided that for the post of Station Officer (Fire Service), a candidate must be a

Science or Engineering graduate from a recognised University or Institution.

Physical Standard Measurements:

Age limit(As on 01.01.2017): 21 to 25 years (Relaxation as per government policy)

OSSC Recruitment Post wise vacancies: 218 Posts

Sub-Inspector of Police – 184 Posts

S.I. of Police (Armed) – 20 Posts

Station officer (Fire Service) – 10 Posts

Assistant jailor – 4 Posts

OSSC Recruitment Selection process:

The selection process is based on Preliminary Examination, Physical Measurement and Physical

Test, Main Written Examination.

Candidates, who obtained such minimum qualifying marks in the written part, NCC certificate marks

and marks secured for achievement in sports of the examination as may be fixed by the Commission

at their discretion, shall be called for the Viva Voce-cum-Psychology Test.

The Test shall carry 30 marks (with no qualifying marks)

Preliminary Test (qualifying only):

The Preliminary Examination shall consist of one paper of 100 marks of one hour duration.

The question shall be of objective type with multiple choices to be answered in OMR sheet.

The questions shall be set proportionately from general science, current events of National &

International importance, history of India and Odisha, Fundamentals of English grammar, Arithmetic

of HSC standard, problem solving and reasoning.

The Candidates qualifying in the Preliminary Examination will be called for Physical Test.

There will be negative marking of @ 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the preliminary


Main (written) examination (total 300 marks/500 marks):

The candidates qualifying in the Physical Measurement & Physical Test will be allowed to appear in

the Main Written Test which shall consist of the following Papers.

For the post of Sub-Inspector of Police & Assistant jailor, the exam contains Paper-I, Paper-II &

Paper-III. (300 Marks)

The candidates applying for the post of Station Officer (Fire Service) will be required to appear in

the Technical paper (Paper-IV) in addition to other 3 Papers i.e. Paper-I, Paper-II & Paper-III. (500


Scheme of Examination:

Weightage Marks:

For NCC ’13’ & `C” Certificate – Maximum 15 Marks

Sports achievement i.e. winning Medals in State level/National Level/International level – Maximum

15 Marks

Degree/ Diploma in Fire Engineering for the Station Officer (Fire Service) Only: For Degree – 10-

Marks & For Diploma-5 Marks.

Examination fee: Rs.100/- (No fee for SC & ST Candidates)

Mode of Payment: Fee paid through online or offline mode using the Treasury Portal or by the

conventional mode in the Head of Account- “0051-PSC-104-UPSC/SSC-Examination Fees-0047-

Fees collected for conducting examinations-02041-Examination Fees”
